What’s Next?

Hello Feed Your Love Open Mic family!

We know that many of you have been curious about the next manifestation of the Feed Your Love Open Mic. We have no news on that front yet, but we have been keeping in touch with the organizers of other open mics in the area and with venue owners; some ideas are brewing.

Bert and Don thought it would be nice if we could get the FYL family together at the Wellfleet Preservation Hall Open Mic this Thursday at 7pm. If you haven’t been, you will find it to be a very nice performance space. Great sound, great acoustics, beautiful building. Check out their website now at www.wellfleetpreservationhall.org. (There are some good photos under “What’s Happening”.)

Don regrets that he will be out of town this coming week but Bert is looking forward to seeing all of you there!

End of an Era, Dec 21, 2011

It’s over. For now. Thanks to everyone for a great three years!

Thanks to our 33 performers: Anna Hirst, Tim Sweeney, Peter Hirst, Don Boivin, Rosanne Shapiro, Daniel from CA, Marty Crow, Mark Alvin, Justin Alvin, Bruce Hill, Rick Sweeney, Jim Cox, Cheryl Kain & Robertchez, Kevin St. Pierre, Joe Rees, Rich Elliot Grunes, Jennifer Stratton, Rob Peters, Frank Whalen, Dan McCarthy, Ken Silvia, Peter West, Val Sullivan, Roe Osborn, David Roth, Frank Poranski, Chev Hardy, Mark Pombo, Penn Dixon Colbert, David Jackson, Rich Latimer, Bert Jackson and Doc Doug Brown.

Here are some photos from our last Cape Cup open mic.

Tim Sweeney wrote a nice article about Cape Cup for the Cape Codder.

We are both pleased and sorry to announce that the wonderful and supportive, always smiling, always upbeat proprietors of Cape Cup, Bill and Elise Waldron, are taking in their shingle, retiring to the good life, quittin’ while they’re ahead, taking a well deserved rest to spend more time with each other and their kids and grandkids.

We don’t believe it’s an exaggeration to say that Bill and Elise have created something – something physical and something intangible – that can’t be duplicated. Lately we’ve been talking a lot about just what that is and how much we’re going to miss it.

Let’s continue the conversation by celebrating Bill and Elise and Cape Cup at our final Feed Your Love Open Mic at the Cape Cup location on December 21st. We’ll start an hour earlier than usual at 6pm. Musicians, please feel free to play whatever you want – holiday songs are welcome but not required. Practice something special, get a duet or trio together, just be there to share and honor both Cape Cup and the Feed Your Love community that we value so much.

Readings and poetry are also welcome. We’ll keep to the 8 minute time slot but if you just want to stand up and talk about what Cape Cup and the Feed Your Love Open Mic means to you… by all means!

Cape Cup will close on December 23, so get over there and try anything you haven’t tried yet, and wish Bill and Elise well.

The Feed Your Love Open Mic is not closing its doors. We’ve got such a great thing going – a great community – all of you and your pretty faces and beautiful songs… that ain’t just gonna stop. We are tossing around ideas for new locations or new manifestations. In the meantime we’ll probably organize some temporary open mic locations – a moveable feast! We’ll keep you posted.

(For this grand finale open mic we are asking for volunteers to help clean up. Some of the duties include sweeping, washing tables, moving chairs and tables, wrapping cords. If enough volunteers pitch in we can have the job done in no time.)

So save the date; December 21, 6pm at Cape Cup, 54 Main St, Orleans. We’ll send out one more reminder in a couple of weeks.

See you there!

Don & Bert
