An open letter from Don

Hello my friends,

Recently I had a very good, in-depth conversation about music with my friend Bert Jackson.  Bert is primarily a jazz guitarist (amazing – if you haven’t seen him yet, do so).  I am a lyrical songwriter, a folk singer if you will.  We both seem to be in agreement on this: music is a conversation that involves everyone, and music is a connection to that which is bigger than us.  You may call it the divine, the spirit, a mystery, or simply be happy to know that you don’t know.

I liked Bert’s view of music as a positive vibration.  When we make music we create vibes that pulsate outward in an ever growing circle.  The more people who are making music the better for the universe.  That is the premise behind the new open mic at Cape Cup.  We mean it to be a home for people who have something to say, something to share.  A mutual support system for people who understand that music is about so much more than recordings, gigs, recognition.

Please come to listen.  Some of the most talented, connected and powerful voices are not on the radio or youtube – they are in the garages and basements, living rooms and home studios of our own neighborhood.  We want to bring them out once in a while to show them that what they are doing is important.

Please come to play.  Beginner or advanced, the music in your heart matters.

“Feed Your Love!”

Our hope is that the divergence of good people, good food, and the love of music and community will create a unique monthly experience.  The music that is being created and played on Cape Cod is diverse and wonderful.  We want to showcase that talent, both experienced and up-and-coming.  We want to have a good time.  We want to see you there!
